It’s official, Jason Momoa is returning to James Gunn‘s DCU, but not as his DCEU role of Aquaman. Instead, he will return as Lobo in the DCU.

Momoa confirmed the news on his Instagram account with a post sharing a snap from an interview.

In the interview with Fandango, Momoa said, “So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.’ I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

In DC Comics, Lobo is an antihero and bounty hunter across the galaxy. He is an alien from the planet Czarnia, which he was responsible for destroying. He was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen and first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

We previously reported that Momoa will be playing Lobo in DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. According to Gunn, filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will officially begin next month (January 2025) in England.

Jason Momoa Reportedly Eyed For A Role In 'Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow' That’s Sounding Like LOBO

In the 2021 comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Lobo was originally supposed to appear. However, editors Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich were instructed to remove him. Speaking to ComicBook.com, King said, “That book [Supergirl: WoT] began as me pitching a Lobo/Supergirl book, and it was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character’.” King added, “And so it wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.”

Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, the film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. It is the second film in the DC Universe and the fourth installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Kara Zor-El’s story and her darker origin before she finally made her way to Earth.”

Gunn and Peter Safran are producing the film, with DC EVP Chantal Nong serving as the executive producer.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
