Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will not be involved in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men‘ reboot film, as reported by insider Daniel Richtman in his latest Patreon post.
According to the report, the reason behind Jackman’s absence from the X-Men project is that he will continue playing the character, likely even after Avengers: Secret Wars.
So, what will the X-Men team look like without Wolverine? It’s reported that the film will feature Gambit and Kitty Pryde, along with Angel, Iceman, and Jubilee. However, it’s uncertain if the original X-Men lineup will be present.
Marvel Plans to Bring Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Together in the MCU
Marvel had big plans for Jackman’s Wolverine since his return in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie. The studio is reportedly working to make Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine interact in the MCU. Both are rumored to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Filming is scheduled to begin in Q4 2025. Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time, Agents of Shield, Uncharted) and Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Assassin’s Creed) are reportedly the finalists to write the script for X-Men. Marvel is also considering Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) to direct.
Recently, Production Weekly revealed a short synopsis for the upcoming live-action ‘X-Men’ film.
The plot is as follows: “Charles Xavier’s team of merry mutants is charged with the mission of protecting a world that hates and fears them for their unusual appearances and abilities.”
There are rumors that Marvel wants their X-Men film to focus on female characters—they also want to introduce characters we haven’t seen in live-action yet.
Back in 2023, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feige was asked about what fans could expect from the X-Men in the MCU.
Feige replied, “It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid, rich, and great a concept and characters as exist. There’s the return of the animated series [X-Men ’97’] next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really brought you back to the core of who the X-Men are and the soap opera that those characters represent. And then, in live action, people will see… perhaps, soon.”
As of now, Marvel hasn’t officially announced the X-Men reboot or any release date.
