Warning: This post contains spoilers for the X-Men reboot movie.
Marvel’s X-Men reboot is currently in pre-production, and the studio is reportedly starting with the original five X-Men.
According to insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), the X-Men reboot will have a coming-of-age story focus. It will follow a younger team that grows over time, with the original five X-Men serving as the main group: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel.

It is reported that Marvel plans to begin with a core team instead of an overcrowded roster. The lineup is expected to be smaller and more focused, featuring the original five members plus around three additional X-Men.
Will Wolverine be part of Marvel’s first X-Men team lineup?

Marvel is reportedly keeping Wolverine out of the first roster so other X-Men members can stand out. This may help build the team before bringing in the franchise’s most famous mutant.
There is still a possibility of Hugh Jackman returning as Logan after Avengers: Secret Wars, though recasting is also possible. Dafne Keen as Laura / X-23 has also been mentioned as a possible future Wolverine path.
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Jake Schreier revealed that the X-Men movie will be a “fresh start” for the MCU.
Schreier said, “Something that Kevin [Feige] has pushed for is this idea of, ‘What can we do within this world?’ It’s such a massive world, and I’ve spent the year rereading a ton of it, like the entire [Chris] Claremont run and so much of the great work that Grant Morrison did.”
Schreier added, “There are so many different interesting takes within this world, and that shouldn’t be a clue to anything. That’s just for background, to live in the world, and to understand how deep that world is.”
The film will be directed by Schreier (Thunderbolts*) from a script written by Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear). A rumor from Filmbase.UK states that the X-Men movie will begin filming in the UK later this year.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Jin talked about working on the film.
Sung said, “Jake [Schreier] wants to breathe fresh life into this franchise. It’s early, but we’ve been meeting with Kevin [Feige] and Louis [D’Esposito] regularly. I think true fans will be excited.”
Marvel has reserved three theatrical dates for 2028. Instead of X-Men opening the year, Jeff Sneider reports that Deadpool 4 could arrive first after Secret Wars. That would potentially leave X-Men and Black Panther 3 rounding out the year.
