Marvel’s ‘The Fantastic Four‘ is officially set to begin filming on July 29 in London, as confirmed by Marvel President Kevin Feige.
Kevin Feige Confirms ‘The Fantastic Four’ as a 1960s Period Piece Set in Alternate Universe to MCU
Feige also confirmed that the film is set in an alternate reality to the main MCU and will be a period piece set in the 1960s.
In the first episode of Marvel’s new The Official Marvel Podcast, Feige reveals, “We start shooting at the end of July.” He added, “The day after Comic-Con [International: San Diego] is the first day of filming on Fantastic Four.”
The Marvel President then praised fans’ investigative digging surrounding another Fantastic Four poster, adding, “Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period. There were a lot of smart people who noticed that the cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know or that existed in the ’60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say.”
I have already reported that ‘The Fantastic Four’ will include multiple classic villains from the Fantastic Four comics in small roles, appearing in the first act of the film. As Feige commented on the Marvel classics finally joining the MCU, he said, “I’m extremely excited by it because I think those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we’ve never gotten to play with or explore in a significant way outside of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way that we’re doing it in that film. So I’m extremely excited for that.”
The film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Ineson as Galactus. Julia Garner is set to portray a female Silver Surfer, with Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich in undisclosed roles. Additionally, characters yet to be cast include Mole Man and H.E.R.B.I.E.
Directed by Matt Shakman, the original script for ‘Fantastic Four,’ written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, has undergone a rewrite by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Produced by Feige, Grant Curtis, and Nick Pepin.
‘The Fantastic Four’ will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
