HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 has recently wrapped filming and is now in post-production, with a premiere scheduled for 2025 on HBO. Watch the new trailer below.
In a recent interview on Variety’s latest episode of the podcast Strictly Business, Neil Druckmann, creator of The Last of Us and head of the successful Naughty Dog game studio, revealed that there is one specific scene in The Last of Us Season 2 that will be highly appreciated by fans. This scene explores the backstory of an important character, which wasn’t possible to explore in the game but is brought to life in the show.
Druckmann said, “There’s stuff in this season that I’m really excited about — stuff that we hinted at — one scene in particular comes to mind that I think fans of the game will eat up, because it really kind of tells you a lot of backstory of this important character that there wasn’t really a way for us to even do that in the game.”
According to The Last of Us Season 2 official description, “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The second season, based on the 2020 game The Last of Us Part II developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in the aftermath of the first season and introduces Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). Craig Mazin and Druckmann serve as showrunners.
In Season 2, Pascal stars as Joel Miller, with Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Dever as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Catherine O’Hara in an undisclosed guest role, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon.
The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells.
The Last of Us Season 2 will contain 7 episodes and premiere on HBO in early 2025.
