The first look at Netflix’s ‘Scoop,’ a film about the infamous interview between Prince Andrew and Emily Maitlis, starring Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson, has been revealed.
Directed by Philip Martin, ‘Scoop’ is a biographical drama showing the behind-the-scenes story of the 2019 BBC interview with Prince Andrew by Emily Maitlis. The film is based on Sam McAlister’s book, ‘Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interview.
The film stars Anderson as Emily Maitlis, Sewell as Prince Andrew, Billie Piper as Sam McAlister, Keeley Hawes as Amanda Thirsk, Connor Swindells as Jae Donnelly, Romola Garai as Esme Wren, Charity Wakefield as Princess Beatrice, Paul Popplewell, Lia Williams as Fran Unsworth, and Theresa Godly as BBC U.S. News Reporter.
What is the ‘Scoop’ About?
The film explores the behind-the-scenes efforts of women negotiating with Buckingham Palace to secure the ‘scoop of the decade.’ The televised interview with Prince Andrew, focusing on his connection to Jeffrey Epstein and allegations of sexual assault, ultimately led to his downfall. In early 2022, Andrew settled out of court for £12 million regarding the accusations he denies. The interview was described as a catastrophic event, likened to a plane crashing into an oil tanker, causing a tsunami, and triggering a nuclear explosion.
In an interview with Netflix, Martin said, “I want to put the audience inside the breathtaking sequence of events that led to the interview with Prince Andrew—to tell a story about a search for answers in a world of speculation and varying recollections.” Martin added, “It’s a film about power, privilege, and differing perspectives and how, whether in glittering palaces or high-tech newsrooms, we judge what’s true.”
When will ‘Scoop’ be Released?
‘Scoop’ is set to be released later this year on Netflix.
