Derek Connolly (‘Detective Pikachu,’ ‘Jurassic World’) is set to write the script for Paramount’s untitled Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover action project. Although the film is currently untitled, there are talks that Chris Hemsworth (‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’, ‘Extraction 2’, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’) will star in the film.
Does The Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover Film Draws Inspiration From A Comic Book?
The crossover film is developed by Paramount and Hasbro. According to reports, the film’s concept is taken from the Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover comic published by Marvel Comics in 1987. The four-issue limited series brought together characters from both the Transformers and G.I. Joe universes in one storyline.
The comic “G.I. Joe and the Transformers” tells the story of the Decepticons and Cobra teaming up to seize an energy source. To stop them, the Autobots and G.I. Joe join forces, resulting in epic battles and a showdown between iconic characters from both franchises.
The upcoming film will be a sequel to last year’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” which ended with Anthony Ramos’ character, Noah Diaz, is invited to join the secret military organization G.I. Joe.
Produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy. Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment will executive produce.
Connolly often works closely with director Colin Trevorrow and his screenwriting career began with their breakthrough film, “Safety Not Guaranteed.” This movie marked his debut and earned Connolly the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay in 2013, along with the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance in 2012.
A director, cast, and release date announcement is expected soon from Paramount.
