Rocksteady Studios, the studio behind the Batman: Arkham games, is reportedly working on a new Batman game. Also, Sony is aiming to support the game and limit it exclusively to the PlayStation 5 platform.
On X (formerly Twitter), XboxEra’s Shpeshal Nick shared, “Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it. I also think Sony are trying to moneyhat it lol.”
According to Nick, Rocksteady is working on a new Batman game—not a remaster or remake of the Batman: Arkham series—while Sony aims to secure the game as a PlayStation console exclusive.
After 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, Rocksteady Studios hasn’t worked on a true Batman game, having concluded the original Arkham trilogy. They developed Arkham VR for PC and PS4 in 2016, which received mixed reviews. In 2023, they released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was a huge disappointment to fans as it failed to meet expectations across all metrics.
Recently, Puck reported that the divisions of Warner Bros. Discovery are collaborating more closely on projects, such as the Penguin HBO show and the associated game—both connected to 2022’s The Batman movie. This collaboration highlights the strategic value of the games unit within the larger Warner Bros. Discovery ecosystem.
James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has hinted at his ambition to connect his universes across various formats—including large and small screens, books, and video games. On X, back in February 2023, Gunn stated that an AAA game typically takes about four years to develop, which suggests we may see the first game in this DC universe by 2027.
An official confirmation has yet to come from Rocksteady about the new Batman game.
