Sam Raimi, the director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is rumored to return for the next Doctor Strange movie.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider report, Raimi is finalizing a deal with Marvel Studios to return as the director of Doctor Strange 3, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ends with Charlize Theron‘s Clea—a sorceress from the Dark Dimension and the niece of Dormammu—appearing. She opens a portal to her dimension using a magical device, and Clea asks Strange if he is afraid to come with her.
Marvel Studios to Adapt Time Runs Out Comic Elements in Doctor Strange 3
It is reported that Marvel Studios plans to adapt elements from the Time Runs Out comic event in Doctor Strange 3. The film will continue from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Charlize Theron’s Clea—who comes from another dimension—seeks Strange’s help to fix an incursion he caused. Clea is part of the multiversal group known as The Black Priests, based in the Nothing Space of destroyed universes, which were formed from two dead universes after an incursion. The film will explore the dying Multiverse as a result of ongoing incursions, including Doctor Strange’s actions, and further reveal his threat to the Multiverse as hinted in Multiverse of Madness.
Cumberbatch will return in the upcoming Avengers movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2025. Doctor Strange 3 is expected to be released around 2027, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is scheduled for July 2026.
Raimi directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film has grossed $955.8 million worldwide.
