Shang-Chi star Simu Liu has finally commented on Destin Daniel Cretton directing Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man 4. Cretton made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in 2021 with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
According to Liu, Cretton’s involvement with Spider-Man 4 won’t affect the Shang-Chi sequel. He says that he doesn’t “think anything’s been impacted.” As of now, there are no updates on Shang-Chi 2, and it has not been confirmed whether Liu’s Shang-Chi will appear in the upcoming Avengers movies.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Liu was asked if Cretton working on both the Shang-Chi sequel and Spider-Man 4 has affected its release.
Liu said, “I don’t think anything’s been impacted. I think we’re all… I speak to Destin often and there’s nothing coming out of both of us but excitement to make this film.”
According to insider Daniel Richtman’s Patreon report, Cretton will reportedly bring a fresh take on Spider-Man and a new approach to directing.
The movie will introduce a new female love interest for Peter Parker, while Zendaya‘s role as Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones will be a brief cameo due to her busy schedule with other film commitments.

Spider-Man 4 is scheduled to begin filming is scheduled to begin in June 2025 in the United Kingdom and is expected to wrap in October 2025. The script is reportedly still undergoing rewrites by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers following the weak structure of the early draft. The film now has a production budget of $200 million.
Directed by Cretton from a screenplay by McKenna and Sommers, it will be the fourth installment of the Spider-Man series.
The film will be produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man 4 will hit in theaters on July 24, 2026.
