Susan Sarandon (‘Maybe I Do’, ‘Blue Beetle’), William H. Macy (‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’, ‘The Dropout’), and Marcia Cross (‘The Secret of Karma’, ‘Bringing Up Bobby’) have joined the cast of veteran documentary filmmaker Thomas A. Morgan‘s indie drama ‘Exit Right‘.
What is ‘Exit Right’ About?
‘Exit Right’ follows Jan Randall (Sarandon), who has inoperable brain cancer and is deeply afraid of being trapped inside her own mind. Refusing medications that would confine her to a hospital bed, she moves into a tent in her backyard. Determined to give her one last gift, her husband John takes her on a trip around the world—on foot, in their own hometown—for what truly becomes the trip of a lifetime.
In the film, Sarandon plays Jan Randall, an adventurous and strong-willed retired journalist. Macy plays her husband John, a practical and tidy retired accountant. Cross portrays Monica Freeman, Jan’s estranged sister, who is determined to ensure Jan receives the best medical care, despite her contempt for John.
The film marks Morgan’s narrative debut, which he wrote and directed for London-based Garrick Street Productions and Square Zero Films. It is produced by Ed Glauser through Garrick Street Productions. Sarandon and Macy will executive produce, along with Garrick Street’s Lawrence Aldridge and Michael Shyjka.
Morgan told Deadline in a statement, “This story is personal to me on many levels. As we age, who gets to influence how we die? Who do we want by our side? How do we define love, family, or community? Bringing a story like this to the world is a life-long dream fulfilled for a little boy who sat in the theater every weekend, waiting to see life unfold on a screen.”
Filming for ‘Exit Right’ is set to begin soon, but the release date has not yet been slated. Stay tuned for more updates.
