From Nintendo and Illumination comes ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘, which is getting a sequel. Chris Pratt, who voices Mario in the film, has revealed that ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2‘ is coming soon. Pratt revealed that once the WGA negotiations are done and the writers are ready, they will begin discussing what comes next for the sequel.

Speaking to ET Online, Pratt teased that a sequel to ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is “coming soon.” He said, “We’re in the midst of this writers’ strike, and so everything has been paused and put on hold for the right reasons.” Pratt added, “I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.”
The film is based on the iconic Nintendo video games and follows the origin story of the brothers Mario and Luigi, Italian-American plumbers who are transported to an alternate world and become entangled in a battle between the Mushroom Kingdom, led by Princess Peach, and the Koopas, led by Bowser.
He continued, “It’s really shocking to me how successful that movie’s been. I mean, I expected that people would love it the way I was excited about it, but it’s truly multigenerational around the world. People love it. They love Mario. It’s a really fun, funny, cute, heartwarming movie, and, God, I can’t believe I’m part of it.”
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The film’s voice cast includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, and Fred Armisen. Produced by Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released on April 5, 2023, has grossed $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, setting records and becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the third-highest-grossing animated film.
