Following its South by Southwest (SXSW) premiere, Bernardo Britto‘s sci-fi comedy Omni Loop — starring Ayo Edebiri and Mary Louise Parker — will be hitting theaters soon, distributed by Magnolia Pictures.
When is ‘Omni Loop’ releasing in theaters and on digital platforms?
According to Deadline, Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to ‘Omni Loop’ and confirmed that they will release it in theaters and on digital platforms on September 20, 2024.
In a statement, Eamonn Bowles, co-CEO of Magnolia Pictures said, “Mary Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri are spellbinding in Bernardo Britto’s terrifically twisty film. We look forward to releasing this September.”
Here’s the official synopsis of Omni Loop:
Zoya Lowe (Parker), a 55-year-old woman from Miami, FL, has been diagnosed with a black hole inside her chest and given a week to live. But what the doctors and her family don’t know is that she has already lived this week before. She’s lived it so many times, in fact, that she doesn’t even know how long it’s been. Until one day she meets Paula (Edebiri), a young woman studying time at a lab in the local university, and together they decide to try and solve time travel so Zoya can actually go back— back into her past, back to a time before she settled, back to when her whole future was still wide open in front of her—back so she can do it all over again, and finally be the person she always wanted to be.
According to an IndieWire review on Omni Loop — “Omni Loop could use a little more of a sci-fi flavor. There’s the black hole, of course, and a charming bit involving a scientist who’s slowly shrinking into subatomic oblivion. But these light, quirky touches recede into the background as the film goes along, replaced with an ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ type of sentiment that’s disappointingly rote compared to the astute and thoughtful first half.”
The film, written, directed, and edited by Britto, also stars Carlos Jacott as Donald, Harris Yulin, Hannah Pearl Utt as Jayne, Chris Witaske as Morris, and Steven Maier.
Britto said, “It’s my instinct to say something weird or funny here but maybe sometimes it’s best to just be sincere. I love this movie, I love the people I got to make it with, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the great team at Magnolia to get it out into the world.”
Produced by Benjamin Cohen, Patrick Donovan, and David Hinojosa, with Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler, Christine D’Souza Gelb, and Kevin Rowe serving as executive producers, the film comes from 2AM, Lou Filmproduction, and Killer Films.
