Christopher Nolan and Universal Pictures are teaming up once again for their next film, following the success of Oppenheimer, which earned multiple Oscar wins at the 96th Academy Awards.
According to Deadline, Nolan’s next movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, distributed by Universal Pictures. The film will be shot in IMAX.
In the upcoming untitled project, Matt Damon is set to play the lead role. Nolan and Damon previously collaborated on Interstellar (2014), where Damon portrayed Dr. Mann, and on Oppenheimer (2023), where he played General Leslie Groves. This will mark their third collaboration.
We don’t have the plot details yet, and there is no confirmation on whether it is a biographical film or a sci-fi movie. Filming is expected to begin in early 2025.
Oppenheimer was released in theaters on July 21, 2023, and became a huge success, grossing over $942 million worldwide. According to a Forbes report, Christopher Nolan made a deal with Universal in which he received 15% of the movie’s earnings from the start, even before the studio covered its costs. He earned $72 million.
Soon, more A-list actors will be added to the project.
