Tom Holland confirms Spider-Man: Brand New Day reshoots, adding more humor and expanding the villain storyline while improving an already strong film.

Tom Holland has confirmed that additional photography (reshoots) was recently done for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

According to Holland, the film is already working well and is in a strong place, and the reshoots are meant to improve it, not fix it.

In a recent interview with GQ, Holland said the additional photography adds more humor, and that a villain storyline is being expanded in a new way.

Holland said, “The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.”

Holland added, “I can positively say that the stuff we’re doing, we don’t need… The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas.”

Holland said that “the studio is very important to me” when choosing projects.

“I am a strong advocate for theatrical releases and the cinema experience—the communal feeling of sitting in a dark room and being entertained.

I’m really keen to build relationships with studios so that, as a community, we can keep cinemas going.”

Here are the plot details for Spider-Man: Brand New Day:

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor, with Louis D’Esposito and David Cain serving as executive producers.

The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marvin Jones III has been confirmed to play the role of Tombstone. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
