Tom Cruise‘s upcoming movie Digger, in which he stars as the titular character in Alejandro G. Iñárritu‘s black comedy about a powerful man trying to save humanity from an environmental catastrophe, will reportedly be shorter than previously expected.
An earlier report claimed the film would have a runtime of 2 hours and 40 minutes. But a new report from ScreenRant confirmed that the official runtime of Digger is 2 hours and 8 minutes, which is 32 minutes shorter than previously reported. Also, the film will be Cruise’s shortest movie in the last eight years. Digger is two minutes shorter than Top Gun: Maverick, which runs for 130 minutes. However, it is longer than The Mummy (110 minutes) and American Made (115 minutes).
Digger is the first film under Warner Bros. and Tom Cruise’s strategic partnership to develop original and franchise movies.
While Warner Bros. reportedly lists Digger‘s production budget at $125 million, industry insiders claim the actual cost may be considerably higher. Puck‘s Matt Belloni questioned the studio’s figure, while a Page Six Hollywood source said the movie was “pushing $200M.”
Alejandro G. Iñárritu directs Digger and co-wrote the script with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone. The story was developed by Iñárritu and Berman.
Digger stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell, a wealthy oil tycoon, alongside Riz Ahmed as Ganesh, John Goodman as the President of the United States, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, Sophie Wilde, Pip Torrens, and Mercedes Hernández as Digger’s housekeeper.
Digger will be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 2, 2026.
