Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke Say 'Drive-Away Dolls' Is The First Planned Lesbian B-Movie Trilogy

First look at Ethan Coen’s 'Drive-Away Dolls,' starring Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Beanie Feldstein, and Matt Damon.

Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke say that ‘Drive-Away Dolls‘ is the first of a planned trilogy of “lesbian B movies.” Cooke explained that their original intention was to write three queer B movies, which they expected would remain unpublished. However, they have successfully brought one of them to completion. Coen added that they have already completed the script for another movie in the trilogy.

In an interview with Collider, Cooke revealed that they have spent 20 years writing a lesbian B movie trilogy with the expectation that they would remain unpublished. However, they have now completed and produced one of the films.

Cooke said, “Over the past 20 years, we’ve been writing this lesbian B movie trilogy. Not really a trilogy, but the idea was to write three queer B movies that I always thought would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs. And now we’ve made one of them.”

Coen added, “And we have another one written. The problem with writing two is then you’re obliged to do a third because nobody does two. You gotta do a trilogy. I don’t even know the word for two corresponding to a trilogy.”
