Avan Jogia (‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ and ‘Zombieland: Double Tap’) and Dove Cameron (‘Schmigadoon!’ and ‘Barely Lethal’) are set to star in Prime Video’s ‘Obsession‘ series, which is adapted from Catherine Ryan Howard’s 2021 bestselling novel ‘56 Days’ and described as a crime story and an erotic, psychological thriller.
The show is written by Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher, who also serve as executive producers along with James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett under their banner Atomic Monster and Sandrine Gros d’Aillon. The project is overseen by Danielle Bozzone for Amazon MGM Studios. Ryan Howard is also serving as a co-executive producer.
According to the plot synopsis, “The story follows Oliver (Jogia) and Ciara (Cameron), who, after meeting randomly in a supermarket, fall for each other fast, and dangerously hard. 56 days later, homicide investigators arrive at Oliver’s apartment to find an unidentified body—brutally murdered and intentionally decomposed. Did he kill her? Did she kill him? Intercutting between an intense single day in the present investigation and the twisted trajectory of the young lovers’ affair in the past, the series is both a crime story and an erotic, psychological thriller.”
The first two episodes are directed by Alethea Jones (‘Rise of the Pink Ladies’ and ‘Evil’). It will premiere on Prime Video soon; we haven’t received the details of the exact release date yet.
Emmy-winning actress and platinum recording artist Cameron recently starred in Schmigadoon! and Mel Brooks’ History of the World: Part II. She has also appeared in Vengeance and Disney’s Descendants film franchise.
Jogia will next star opposite Krysten Ritter in AMC’s Orphan Black: Echoes. His past series credits include Now Apocalypse, The Stranger, and Tut. Recently, he appeared in Choose Love, Door Mouse (his directorial debut), and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
