Netflix‘s Peaky Blinders movie has begun production in the United Kingdom. The news of the production kickoff was officially announced by Netflix on the X platform. They also revealed the first look at Cillian Murphy returning as Tommy Shelby.
On X, Netflix shared two images: one of Murphy as Tommy Shelby and the next of Murphy and Steven Knight reunited on set. They wrote, “By order of the Peaky Blinders… Tommy Shelby is back. Cillian Murphy and Steven Knight are reunited on set as production officially starts on the upcoming Netflix film.” See the images below.
As we previously reported, the Peaky Blinders movie is reportedly titled The Immortal Man. Tom Harper is directing the film, based on a screenplay by the show’s creator, Knight.
The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo.
In a recent interview, Knight said, “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
The production team includes Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley as producers. Executive producers are Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The film will be made in partnership with BBC Film.
The Peaky Blinders movie is set to be released on Netflix in 2025, with the exact date to be announced.
