Jason Momoa is rumored to be joining James Gunn‘s DC Universe. However, this time it is not as Aquaman. According to insider Daniel Richtman on his Patreon account, Momoa is reportedly being eyed for a role in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. The role is believed to be Lobo, a ruthless bounty hunter across the galaxy.
Is Jason Momoa Ready to Play Lobo in the DC Universe?
Speaking to Fandango (Via: Screenrant) during the ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ press tour, Momoa addressed the rumors about whether he will play Lobo in Gunn’s DCU.
Momoa said, “So, Lobo… I used to collect comics and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I’ve always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello?.’ It’s pretty perfect. It’s the perfect role. I mean, listen, if they call me and ask me to play it? It’s a f*** yeah. But, I mean, that’s a guarantee.” Momoa added, “So, you don’t have to worry about that. But, I haven’t received that call. So, I don’t want to put any fake news out there but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
Tom King on Removing Lobo From 2021’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Comic
In the 2021 comic ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King, Lobo was originally supposed to appear. However, editors Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich were instructed to remove him. Speaking to ComicBook.com, King said, “That book [Supergirl: WoT] began as me pitching a Lobo/Supergirl book, and it was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character’.” King added, “And so it wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.”
Gunn announced a Supergirl film, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DC Universe. Craig Gillespie is directing the film from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Gunn, commenting on the announcement, said, ‘In our series, we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
Gunn said, “One of my favorite comic book series from last year was Tom King’s run on ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, so we’re gonna turn that into a big science fiction epic film. Now Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, whereas Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton, she watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”
When is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Release Date?
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘ will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
