Brad Pitt was recently spotted filming on the set of Joseph Kosinski‘s F1 movie in Pismo Beach, California.
After a year and a half of production, F1 has finally wrapped filming. The film reportedly had a budget of $300 million.
The first trailer for F1 was recently released, showcasing multiple racing scenes and stunning visuals. When speaking to Deadline, Kosinski addressed the reports about the film’s budget, saying, “I’m just going to say I’m used — on a lot of the movies I’ve worked on — to having them over-reported for whatever reason, but I’ve never had an experience where they were off by this much on a film. I’m not sure where that number came from.”
Kosinski revealed, “Formula 1 is kind of the pinnacle of motorsports, so I think over the next year we’ll certainly try to spread the word. But ultimately, we’re making a film that, even if you’ve never been to a race or don’t know anything about it, you’re still going to get a great story and you’re going to learn a lot about the sport as you watch.”
In an interview with The New York Times, Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of F1, said, “About two-thirds of the movie is already cut. This will be the last race that we have to cut together, and we’ll take a look at it.”
Directed by Kosinski from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, F1 features the Formula One World Championship, created in collaboration with the FIA, its governing body. Apple Studios acquired the distribution rights in a package deal worth $130–140 million.
In the film, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who experienced a devastating crash in the 1990s, leading to his retirement from the sport. However, a Formula One team owner and friend calls him back into the racing world, who requests his assistance in mentoring rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).
The cast of F1 includes Pitt as Sonny Hayes, Damson Idris as Joshua “Noah” Pearce, Kerry Condon as Kate, Tobias Menzies as Banning, Javier Bardem as Ruben (Sonny’s friend and APXGP team owner), Kim Bodnia as Kaspar, Shea Whigham as Chip Hart, Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio, Sarah Niles as Bernadette (Noah’s mother), Samson Kayo as Cashman, Callie Cooke as Jodie, and Layne Harper as Press.
Additionally, all ten Formula One teams and drivers will appear as themselves, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., George Russell, Sergio Pérez, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, and Valtteri Bottas.
Produced by Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Lewis Hamilton, Jeremy Kleiner, Joseph Kosinski, Chad Oman, and Brad Pitt, the film is produced by Apple Studios, Dawn Apollo Films, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and Plan B Entertainment.
F1 will hit theaters in the IMAX format internationally on June 25, 2025, and domestically on June 27, 2025.
