Disney’s live-action Moana recently wrapped filming in Oahu, Hawaii. During production, new set images of Catherine Laga’aia as Moana were leaked online.
In the images, Laga’aia’s Moana is seen filming a beach scene where she falls down. She closely resembles the animated version of Moana.
On X, user @BackgridUS has shared footage of Laga’aia’s Moana sharing an emotional scene with her on-screen parents, Chief Tui (John Tui) and Sina (Frankie Adams). It may possibly be the final scene of the movie. Check out the clip below.
A few days ago, the first set images of Dwayne Johnson as Maui surfaced online, sparking questions from fans about whether Johnson is wearing a body suit. Recently, speaking to Extra TV, Johnson confirmed that he is indeed wearing a bodysuit for the live-action Moana movie.
He said, “That’s a suit that took a long time to put on.” He added, “So, I’m so happy you said, ‘You bulked up,’ because when you say, ‘You bulked up,’ that means you couldn’t tell.”
Johnson continued, “That’s a couple of hours every day of transforming, putting that on. We shot outside, and when those pictures surfaced, I was like, ‘Sh*t, we got caught,’ because we were putting up walls to block the paparazzi. But they got into boats and started shooting pictures.”
Directed by Thomas Kail, with a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. The cast of Disney’s live-action Moana includes Lagaʻaia as Moana, Johnson as Maui, Tui as Chief Tui, Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (Laga’aia) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: her own identity.
Produced by Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia via their Seven Bucks Productions and Beau Flynn via FlynnPictureCo. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the original songs, will also serve as producer. Executive producers include Scott Sheldon of FlynnPictureCo., Auli‘i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the 2016 film, and Charles Newirth.
Moana is scheduled to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, by Walt Disney Studios.
