The upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ film, led by a female protagonist, is in development at Disney. Ayo Edebiri is being considered for the role of Anne, as the movie aims for a younger cast of pirates embarking on a quest for hidden treasure, as confirmed by an Insider Daniel Richtman on Patreon.
Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ series, is teaming up with Ted Elliott, writer of the first four ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films, for the upcoming movie.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Mazin said, “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it; it’s too weird. And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script, and the strike happened, and everyone’s waiting around.”
The director for the film is still unconfirmed, and it is sure that Johnny Depp, who portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in the highly successful ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series grossing over $4.5 billion globally, will not be involved.
According to reports, Depp is reportedly open to returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and Disney is reportedly considering working with him again for another film.
Ayo, known for her award-winning role in ‘The Bear,’ has voiced characters in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.’ She starred in comedy films like ‘Theater Camp‘ and ‘Bottoms.’ Ayo is set to feature in the upcoming horror film ‘Opus’ and the comedy ‘Ella McCay.
