Scott Derrickson is confirmed to return as the director for Blumhouse’s ‘The Black Phone 2,’ as confirmed by producer Ryan Turek.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Turek revealed that Derrickson is returning as the director for the sequel to ‘The Black Phone‘.
Turek said, “Yeah, Scott’s coming back.” Turek added, “I think it’s too early to talk about anything else regarding that, but yeah [Derrickson’s returning].”
‘The Black Phone 2’ is the sequel to the 2022 horror film ‘The Black Phone,’ directed by Derrickson and produced by Blumhouse, which grossed over $160 million worldwide. The sequel is scheduled for a wide release in the summer of 2025 and continues the story of the original film.
Based on a short story by Joe Hill, ‘The Black Phone’ followed Finney, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who was abducted by a sadistic killer played by Ethan Hawke. Trapped in a soundproof basement, a disconnected phone on the wall starts ringing, allowing Finney, portrayed by Mason Thames, to hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. They are determined to prevent what happened to them from happening to Finney.
Hawke, Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora are all set to reprise their roles in ‘Black Phone 2.’
‘The Black Phone’ earned over $160 million globally, with a budget of $18 million. The film received the 2022 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film and the 2023 Hollywood Critics Association Film Award for Best Horror.
The filming is scheduled to begin on June 03, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA, United States.
‘The Black Phone 2’ will hit theaters on June 27, 2025, by Universal Pictures.
