James Gunn, the DC Studios co-CEO, has revealed that there are six movies and TV shows that are furthest along in development for the DCU’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter.
According to Gunn, his new vision for an interconnected DC universe has officially begun with the release of his Superman movie. Gunn’s DCU update revealed six projects furthest along in development—Lanterns, Supergirl, Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold.

A follow-up to Superman is likely the next DCU film in production, with hopes to make The Batman Part II before that. On the Gods and Monsters lineup, Gunn revealed many projects are “going well,” and DC’s brand movies.
Speaking on the I Think You’re Overthinking It podcast with host Chris Hardwick, Gunn said, “The next movie we are making is probably the follow-up to ‘Superman,’ which I don’t want to get into too much detail on. But that’s probably the next film we’re making.”
He added, “Hopefully, we’re making The Batman 2 before that… And then we have another TV show we are making which nobody knows about, which is going next. And then, a lot of that other stuff is still in different stages of development, you know. So, we’ve got ‘Brave and the Bold,’ it’s still going well. And ‘Wonder Woman,’ and ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster [Gold].’ So, all those other things are still going down the road.”
Speaking to Deadline Crew Call, Gunn said the Superman follow-up movie takes place “within the group of characters we’ve already met, and Superman is an important element.”
Also, Gunn shared that DC Studios is developing a super-secret TV series. As of now, there is no information about the title, plot, or characters, but it is considered one of the franchise’s high-priority projects.
James Gunn Teases Plans for Four or More Superman Movies

In a recent interview, Gunn said that the Superman franchise could have over four movies: “I am thinking, ‘What is the long-term story I’m telling here? What is the story that I’m going to tell about Superman over four movies?'”
Gunn’s Superman is now available on digital platforms, and Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max starting Thursday, August 21. The Supergirl movie starring Milly Alcock recently wrapped filming and will be released on June 26, 2026. The Lanterns show will premiere on HBO in early 2026, and Clayface is set to be released on September 11, 2026.
The early home release of Superman is connected to the upcoming release of Peacemaker Season 2. Gunn initially believed Peacemaker would premiere next month, but due to certain reasons, its release was moved to an earlier date.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Gunn said, “It’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month.” He added, “There were a lot of things that are beyond our control, so Peacemaker is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone who wanted to see Superman to be able to, even those who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that’s really the reason for it.”
Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on August 21, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO Max.
