Supergirl will make her first appearance in the DC Universe in James Gunn‘s ‘Superman: Legacy,’ and casting is in progress. Sasha Calle will not be portraying Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DCU, as confirmed by insider Daniel RPK.
Will Sasha Calle return in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’?
In January 2023, Gunn announced a Supergirl film, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DC Universe. Ana Nogueira will write the script. Initially rumored to star Calle, known for her role in ‘The Flash,’ it now seems almost confirmed that Calle will not be reprising her role as Supergirl in the DCU.
The cast for ‘Superman: Legacy’ is now 95% confirmed, and casting is in progress to find a new actress for the role of Supergirl. Filming is set to begin in Atlanta in January 2024, with the movie scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
During an interview with USA Today, Calle said, “I hope to continue playing Supergirl.” She added, “I love her so deeply, and I feel so connected to her.”
Calle continued, “I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings in her day-to-day.” She added, “I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, ‘What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?’ [In The Flash], we don’t meet her human, realized self, so as a fan, that would be something very cool.”
James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ Cast:
- David Corenswet: Clark Kent/Superman
- Rachel Brosnahan: Lois Lane
- Nicholas Hoult: Lex Luthor
- Sara Sampaio: Eve Teschmacher
- Skyler Gisondo: Jimmy Olsen
- Edi Gathegi: Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific
- María Gabriela De Faría: The Engineer
- Nathan Fillion: Guy Gardner/Green Lantern
- Isabela Merced: Hawkgirl
- Anthony Carrigan: Metamorpho
Gunn confirmed that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he made was definitely a sincere superhero movie. The film will be the DC Universe’s first film and the third installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, created by Gunn and Peter Safran.
‘Superman: Legacy’ follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
As for the DCU, Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”
‘Superman: Legacy’ will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
