Emma Mackey has been cast in Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mackey will be playing the role of the White Witch in the new Narnia movie, produced by Netflix.
The film will reportedly focus on The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth book in C. S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia fantasy series. Gerwig, who wrote the script and is directing, reunites with Mackey following their collaboration on the billion-dollar hit Barbie.

The White Witch, named Jadis, is the main villain in The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. She makes Narnia stay in winter all the time, with no Christmas, and turns people into stone.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program (via Deadline), Gerwig revealed that she feels intimidated by her next project, the Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix: “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia.” she added, “I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”
According to reports, Netflix has planned a two-week theatrical IMAX run for Narnia in late 2026.
Mackey is currently filming a new movie directed by J.J. Abrams for Warner Bros., starring alongside Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega. She will also attend the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Alpha, a new film by Titane director Julia Ducournau, where she has a small role. Later this year, Mackey will star as the main character in Ella McCay, a comedy by James L. Brooks, which will be released in theaters on December 12, 2025.
The film will be produced by Matthew Aldrich, Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, and Vincent Sieber.
Narnia will begin production by the end of 2025, with the release date scheduled for 2026.
