What is the Plot of In a Violent Nature?
When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit who was the victim of a horrific 60-year-old crime, his body is resurrected, and he’s hell-bent on retrieving what’s his. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft, and in his mission to get the locket back, he proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one, along with anyone in his way. One of the few slasher films to be shot from the killer’s POV, In a Violent Nature is a modern Canadian horror classic in the making.
According to Joel Harley’s review on SIFF, ‘In a Violent Nature’ presents an experimental twist on the ’80s slasher genre. The bare-bones story follows a mute killer, portrayed by Ry Barrett, as he stalks a group of teenagers through a remote woodland, picking them off in increasingly gruesome fashion.
During the Chicago Critics Film Fest screening of ‘In a Violent Nature,’ audiences reacted strongly to a kill scene, with one viewer reportedly vomiting during the screening, as reported by Film Updates.
The film is produced by Shannon Hanmer and Peter Kuplowsky. Production companies involved include Shudder Films, Zygote Pictures, and Low Sky Productions.
‘In a Violent Nature’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled for release in the United States on May 31, 2024, by IFC Films. It will later be available on Shudder.
