Brie Larson’s first teaser for Lessons in Chemistry transforms a 1950s cooking show into must-see TV
The first trailer for Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, starring Brie Larson, has been revealed. The series is based on the bestselling, debut novel from author, science editor, and copywriter Bonnie Garmus. In the 1950s, Elizabeth Zott’s (played by Larson) dream of being a scientist is challenged by a society that says women belong in the domestic sphere. She accepts a job on a TV cooking show and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives way more than recipes.
What Is The Plot Of Lessons in Chemistry?
According to the Apple TV+ logline, the synopsis for Lessons in Chemistry is as follows:
Set in the early 1950s, “Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone, and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives – and the men who are suddenly listening – a lot more than recipes … all the while craving a return to her true love: science.”
Lessons in Chemistry also stars Lewis Pullman as Calvin, Aja Naomi King as Harriet Slone, Stephanie Koenig as Fran Frask, Patrick Walker as Wakely, Thomas Mann as Boryweitz, and Kevin Sussman as Walter.
The film is produced by Aggregate Films, and six-time Emmy Award nominee Lee Eisenberg serves as showrunner. Sarah Adina Smith serves as executive producer and director of the first two episodes. Natalie Sandy executive produces through Piece of Work Entertainment alongside Eisenberg. Louise Shore also serves as executive producer, and Bonnie Garmus serves as co-executive producer.
