Speaking to Variety, Hutcherson said, “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible.” Hutcherson added, “We hoped it would connect with audiences.”
He continued, “But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
Directed by Emma Tammi, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is a film based on the video game series by Scott Cawthon. Starring Hutcherson, the story follows a troubled security guard discovering that the animatronic mascots in an abandoned pizzeria are possessed by homicidal children.
The film follows Mike (Hutcherson; Ultraman, The Hunger Games franchise) a troubled young man caring for his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio; Holly & Ivy, Unstable), and haunted by the unsolved disappearance of his younger brother more than a decade before. Recently fired and desperate for work so that he can keep custody of Abby, Mike agrees to take a position as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. But Mike soon discovers that nothing at Freddy’s is what it seems. With the aid of Vanessa, a local police officer (Elizabeth Lail; You, Mack & Rita), Mike’s nights at Freddy’s will lead him into unexplainable encounters with the supernatural and drag him into the black heart of an unspeakable nightmare.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ premiered on Peacock and in US theaters on October 27, 2023, by Universal Pictures. The film has grossed $294 million, becoming Blumhouse’s highest-grossing worldwide.
